You end up in the quiet fishing village of Alyki. Heading south, you also got two choices: the coastal route with numerous beaches along the way or towards the inland which is a shortest route. You will then see the Monastery of Christ of the Woods (you will have to get off the main road) and the amazing Butterflies. Head towards Alyki: a little bit off the town you will see Pytheio and Asclepieio towards the inland and more beautiful beaches on the east. Paroikia – Alyki: From Paroikia you can easily explore the south and southeastern part of the island, for a more comprehensive view. From there and on the right you can explore the beaches of the southwestern part of the island: Logaras, Pounta, Messara, Nea Chryssi Akti, Chryssi Akti (where the world windsurf championship is organized every year), Dryos, Pyrgaki, Lolantonis, Glyfa etc. However, there is an intersection at about 7 kilometers from Paroikia where you can turn left and head towards the north part of the island or continue straight for the beaches, after the picturesque villages Marmara, Prodromos and Marpissa –before reaching Piso Livadi. After Marathi, the main road continues right to Lefkes, where you should take a stroll, since this is probably the most beautiful mountain village of the island. You will go through the village of Marathi, where you can visit the ancient quarries. Paroikia – Piso Livadi: This route connects the eastern with the western part of the island, crossing the inland (Paroikia-Lefkon). If you want to go west, you will find Ampela and other nearby villages. From Naousa you can either take a walk in the city or go swimming in the northeastern leg of the island (Santa Maria, Xifara etc.). By approaching the beach you got two choices: to either go to Kolympithres and the other beaches (Agios Ioannis) on the left or to go right towards Naousa. You can continue straight to stumble across the central road of Paroikia-Naousa or turn left and also go through the village Kamares, before ending up in the main road again. The road goes through Kalami and once you exit the village you turn right. Leaving Dilio, you can either return to Paroikia to take the main road of Paroikia-Naousa or you can continue to Kalami, enjoying the view of the Aegean Sea. Heading towards Paroikia, you turn left and then ascend the hill. Initially you can visit the archeological site in Dilio. You can combine this route with visits to the northern part of Paros. Paroikia – Naousa: A relatively short drive between the two biggest towns of the island. Additionally, there is a café and a restaurant. This is where you can exercise water sports, scuba diving, play volley ball, hike, climb and do mountain biking. Model Environmental and Cultural Park of Paros. These marbles were used in the ancient times for the creation of Venus de Milo, Hermes of Praxitelis and other masterpieces. This is where the famous marbles of Paros come from. The marble quarries in Marathi (towards Lefkes). A collection of byzantine icons in the church of Agios Nikolaos in Naousa and the byzantine museum in Agios Athanasios. The chapel of Christ of the Woods, near Agia Eirini. The ever famous church of Ekatontapyliani and the Zoodochos Pigi Monastery on the way to Naousa. The archeological museum and the ecclesiastical byzantine museum are in Paroikia, Scorpio is on the way to Alyki, the Folk Art / Costumes museum is in Naousa and finally the Folklore Museum is in Lefkes. The white, smooth rocks prevail and shape the beach, in unique formations, reminding us of a sculpture, while their natural cavities provide pleasant, soft and warm “seats”. Located near Naousa, boasting unique beauty and character. This kind of butterflies shouldn’t be startled during the day, because this will make them move and consume the energy they have saved from the winter (they are not fed during the summer) and die before they reproduce! This difference is quite important for the visitors, especially during the summer months. This habitat with the streams and the unbelievable flora (for a Cycladic island) hosts a rare insect species, inadvertently called butterfly (which are active during the day and colorful), since basically it’s a night-butterfly (dark colored and active during the night). Paros has many archeological sites, which you definitely need to see: Asclepieio, the temple of Pytheios Apollo, Fragkokastelo (on the hill of the Castle), Dilio (dedicated to Lito, Artemis and Apollo), the Venetian Castle and the Mycenaean Acropolis in the location Koukounaries in Naousa.
